From the desk of... The LinJen Promotions Creative Team RE: Safety Benefits of the Right Uniform
  Solutions #38

You’ll gain much more than just a “billboard” effect from a staff uniform, as long as you select one that accounts for safety. What follows are a few tips to help you make the best apparel decision for your organization.

Proper sizing is often overlooked yet it’s key to garments that not only fit comfortably and attractively, but also keep employees safe. For example, baggy shirts worn around machinery or flames aren’t a good choice! Sleeves or hems can get caught in gears or set afire, resulting in a serious accident. Alternatively, apparel that’s too tight restricts freedom of movement and may affect an employee’s ability to react quickly in dangerous situations. For those reasons, consider an apparel line that offers a vast range of sizes – in men’s and women’s silhouettes – or custom-fit garments.

Performance in today’s apparel means more than just durability. Fabrics with stretch allow for better flexibility and reach. Mesh panels allow for ventilation. Breathable weaves with wicking properties keep wearers’ dry. Sure, construction workers and landscapers obviously need these features, but think also of other professionals who may spend quite a bit of time in the heat or extreme cold selling or consulting: car salespeople, realtors, architects, etc. They too benefit from apparel that accounts for comfortable body temperature. Heat strokes are also a concern for any worker active outdoors in the summer months. (Not to mention the fact that sweat stains are simply just not a professional image for your company!)

Reflectivity counts for any profession that takes employees outside during dawn, dusk or dark. While day-glow colors like bright limes and yellows are excellent, they’re sometimes not enough. You can enhance a worker’s visibility with reflective emblems, striping or accessories.

Many trades have safety requirements for uniforms. We can help you locate garments that meet criteria set by organizations such as the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
